Whether it’s the allure of sexual impurity, the urge to take what isn’t rightfully ours, or any other form of temptation, the enemy’s strategy is to exploit our weaknesses and lead us astray.

Reflecting on the temptation of Christ in Matthew 4, we see how the devil targeted Jesus at a time when he was physically weakened and emotionally depleted after fasting for forty days in the wilderness. The suggestion of bread, something as simple as satisfying hunger, was cunningly presented to Jesus when he was most susceptible.

The enemy’s tactics involve precision, personalization, and persistence. He carefully observes our circumstances and waits for the moment when temptation is most likely to overwhelm us. Whether it’s feelings of neglect, abuse, or rejection, he preys on our vulnerabilities and exploits them for his own gain.
