A Humorous Journey from Catholic School to Spiritual Awakening

Growing up, my family was more of a “Catholic in name only” kind of crew. We barely made it to church—unless it was Easter or Palm Sunday, and even then, it was more of a fashion show than a spiritual experience. Despite the lack of religious fervor at home, my mom wasn’t shy about throwing around the whole “God is watching” line whenever I misbehaved.

So, naturally, I grew up with this image of a stern, judgmental God who was just waiting for me to slip up so He could smite me. Yeah, not the most inviting concept of divinity, right? Fast forward to my high school years, where I found myself in a Catholic school with all its holy rituals.

One day, I was corralled into this tiny confessional booth to spill my teenage sins to a priest I barely knew. Now, here’s the kicker—I couldn’t even remember if I had sinned! So, in my finest teenage sarcasm, I told the priest I drew a blank. Well, let’s just say he wasn’t amused. He accused me of hiding something, and that’s when I made my fatal mistake—I asked him if he ever sinned.

Yeah, that didn’t go down too well. But wait, it gets better. Fast forward again to a sunny day in Miami, where I caught the same priest—who I swear was moonlighting as a parking lot Casanova—locking lips with some girl. So, what’s a curious teenager to do? I strolled right up to him and said, “Hello, Father,” while the girl looked at us like we were starring in a soap opera. Long story short, I struck a deal to get out of his religion class and back into my beloved art class in exchange for my silence.

And what did I learn from this whole Catholic school saga? Well, let’s just say my trust in anything remotely religious took a nosedive.But hey, life has a funny way of working out.

By the time I hit 19, I was tired of feeling empty and lost. So, I started asking questions and seeking God on my terms. And guess what? I found Him—in a church, my friend dragged me to. No trauma, no drama—just me, searching for something more. And boy, did I find it. God transformed my life in ways I never thought possible. So, armed with my newfound faith, I decided to share this life-changing journey with others.
