Spiritual Renewal for America: A Call to Prayer and Action

During some of the darkest days of the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln reminded his fellow Americans that we have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven. To be born in a land of freedom, to live in a nation founded as one nation under God by those who serve the one true God of the Bible, is both a tremendous privilege and a great responsibility. While we have much to admire, love, and be thankful for in calling America our home, our nation is rapidly drifting from its biblical foundations.

Our freedom to serve God and to promote the gospel in our land is disintegrating. We are engaged in a great spiritual battle that threatens our country, our families, and our lives. Only God’s intervention will return America to solid footing and restore a moral nation that righteousness will exalt.

We Must Pray

Our founding fathers knew the power and purpose of prayer. From our nation’s beginning, through times of war and tragedy, we have been called to pray that the hand of the Almighty God might show forth His mercy and intervene with His grace toward America. Today is no different. Second Chronicles 7:14 instructs us: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

The Process

Within the God-given wisdom of our founding documents, we have been granted clear and certain processes for bringing about change concerning things that we perceive as wrong for our land. From the local municipality to the halls of Congress and the White House, embedded in the laws and governmental process of America, are pathways for nonviolent, moral, social, and political change. But first, they must be learned and understood before they can be properly applied.

Participate

Engaging in the process of change is the ultimate key to its success. It is futile to gripe and complain about what one considers wrong or unjust in our land without participating in the process of changing it for the better. The Scriptures are clear on this matter: “To him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin” (James 4:17).

All the promises of the Almighty God and His Word are available to us. He rules in the affairs of men, and nothing is too hard for Him. He is the sovereign King of the universe, with all power and authority, and He is compassionate, gracious, and ready to extend His love and mercy to us. Let us bend our knees, humble our hearts, and pray. Let us be willing to be used by God to help turn this great nation back to Him. Let us stand in the gap and make our lives salt and light in our families, neighborhoods, and workplaces. God wants to come and bless us, to forgive our sins, and to heal our nation.

Call to Action: Engage in the Process of Change

Learn and Understand the Process

Our nation’s founding documents provide clear and certain processes for bringing about change. Here are actionable steps you can take to make a difference:

1. Educate Yourself: Learn about how local, state, and federal governments function. Resources like government websites, educational institutions, and civic organizations can provide valuable information.
2. Get Involved Locally: Attend town hall meetings, join community boards, or participate in local elections. Your voice and vote matter at every level of government.
3. Advocate for Change: Write to your elected officials about issues that matter to you. Support legislation that aligns with your values and work with advocacy groups that promote positive change.
4. Volunteer and Support: Join or support organizations that work towards social, moral, and political change. Every effort counts, whether it’s through time, talent, or treasure.

Prayer for Our Nation

Heavenly Father,

We come before You with humble hearts, grateful for the blessings You have bestowed upon this great nation. We acknowledge that every good gift comes from You, and we thank You for the freedoms we enjoy and the prosperity that has been ours.

Lord, we recognize that our nation is facing challenging times. We see division, strife, and a drift from the values and principles that once unified us. We confess our sins and the ways we have turned away from You. We ask for Your forgiveness and mercy upon our land.

Father, we pray for Your divine intervention. We ask that You heal our hearts and minds, and guide our leaders with wisdom and discernment. Help them to make decisions that honor You and uphold righteousness. May they seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with You.

We lift our communities, families, and all citizens of this nation. Strengthen us to be agents of Your love and peace. Equip us to stand firm in our faith, to act justly, and to show compassion to one another. Empower us to be salt and light in a world that desperately needs Your truth and grace.

Lord, we pray for a spiritual awakening in our nation. Pour out Your Holy Spirit upon us, revive our hearts, and draw us back to You. Help us to humble ourselves, pray, seek Your face, and turn from our wicked ways. We trust in Your promise that You will hear from heaven, forgive our sins, and heal our land.

We ask for Your protection over our nation. Guard us from external threats and internal divisions. Unite us in love and purpose, so that we may be a beacon of hope and freedom to the world.

In all things, may Your will be done. We place our trust in You, knowing that You are sovereign and that nothing is too hard for You. Guide us, bless us, and use us for Your glory.
