Scripture: John 4:10
“Jesus answered her, ‘If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.’”
The inspiration we receive from God is like the living water Jesus speaks of—endlessly flowing, revitalizing, and available to all who seek it. Just as we breathe air without effort, we must let the Divine Light and creative essence of God flow through us without tension or resistance. This effortless connection allows us to access Divine Guidance, the infinite intelligence that speaks to us in ways beyond ordinary comprehension.
The Essence of Inspiration
The word “inspiration” comes from the Latin “spiro,” meaning “I breathe into.” Much like the natural act of breathing, inspiration doesn’t have to be forced or strained. It is a gentle, constant flow of wisdom from God that moves through our intellect and intuition. It is not reserved for mystics or highly spiritual people but is available to each of us in our daily lives.
Understanding Intuition: Inner Hearing as Divine Guidance
Intuition, or inner hearing, is one of the most profound ways we receive God’s guidance. The oldest definition of revelation meant “that which is heard.” Jesus said, “As I hear, I judge” (John 5:30). This tells us that our intuition is not just a fleeting thought but a way to connect directly with Divine wisdom.
Intuition often comes as a still, small voice, a whisper within our minds, or a sudden thought that carries weight and truth. At times, it’s as clear as a voice over the radio, distinct and filled with texture, color, and substance. Listening to this voice means opening our hearts to God’s inspiration in every aspect of our lives, trusting that He speaks to us in ways we can understand if we are willing to listen.
Breaking the Myths Around Inspiration
Many believe that Divine inspiration is reserved only for prayer, the Bible, or moments of deep spirituality. However, this is not the case. Inspiration from God is present in every moment, guiding us through decisions big and small. It’s in the quiet nudges that lead us to call a friend, the inner voice that encourages us to take a step of faith, or the sudden burst of clarity that helps us solve a problem.
This inspiration is always available, and by nurturing our connection to it, we become more attuned to God’s guidance.
Intuition: God’s Whisper in Your Heart and How to Listen
Practical Steps to Nurture Your Intuition:
- Quiet Your Mind: Spend time in silence or meditation, allowing yourself to be still and receptive to God’s voice.
- Journal Your Thoughts: Write down any thoughts or impressions that come to you during prayer or meditation. Often, God speaks to us through these quiet moments.
- Pray for Guidance: Ask God specifically to heighten your intuition and help you hear His guidance more clearly.
- Trust Your Inner Voice: Practice trusting the small, quiet nudges you feel, even when they don’t make logical sense. Faith is often stepping forward without knowing the whole path.
- Seek God’s Word: Read Scripture and reflect on how the messages apply to your current situation. The Bible is a rich source of God’s living guidance.
- Intuition: God’s Whisper in Your Heart and How to Listen
1. The Sudden Feeling to Call a Friend:
Imagine you’re going about your day when you suddenly feel a strong urge to call a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while. You hesitate, thinking it’s just a random thought, but the feeling persists. When you finally make the call, you discover that your friend is going through a difficult time and really needed someone to talk to. Your intuitive nudge was God’s way of connecting you both in a moment of need.
2. A Gut Feeling That Saved a Life:
A woman driving home from work felt an overwhelming sense to take a different route than usual. Though there was no logical reason for it—no traffic reports or roadblocks—she trusted her intuition and changed course. Later, she found out there was a major accident on her usual route around the time she would have been there. This seemingly small decision, guided by intuition, may have saved her from harm.
3. The Voice That Warned Him:
A man was about to invest a significant amount of money into a business deal. Everything looked great on paper, and the advisors he trusted gave the green light. However, in prayer, he kept feeling a persistent inner warning—a quiet but firm “no” that he couldn’t shake. Despite the pressure, he listened to this inner voice and pulled out of the deal. Months later, the business collapsed due to hidden legal issues, saving him from a devastating financial loss.
4. The Creative Spark That Led to Success:
An artist struggling to find inspiration for a project decided to spend time in quiet reflection. During this time, she felt a vivid image flash into her mind—a concept completely different from what she was planning. Trusting this sudden burst of inspiration, she went with the idea. The artwork she created not only fulfilled her vision but also won an award, opening doors she never thought possible. Her intuition led her to the right creative path.
5. Parenting on Intuition:
A mother had a persistent feeling that something was off with her child, even though doctors assured her that everything was normal. She continued to advocate for her child, pushing for further tests and evaluations. Her unwavering intuition led to the discovery of a health issue that needed immediate attention, proving that her inner sense was not just a random feeling but Divine guidance protecting her child.
6. A Job That Wasn’t Right:
A young professional received a job offer that seemed perfect on paper—great salary, benefits, and career growth. Yet, something didn’t feel right deep inside. She couldn’t pinpoint why, but her intuition kept nudging her to decline. Trusting this feeling, she turned down the offer, despite everyone advising her otherwise. Weeks later, she was approached by another company that aligned perfectly with her values and offered her a better role. This move proved to be life-changing.
7. Feeling Pulled Toward a New Opportunity:
A man was working at a job where he felt stuck, unhappy, and unfulfilled. One day, while browsing online, he stumbled upon an ad for a volunteer opportunity abroad. Though it was completely out of his comfort zone and unrelated to his career, something inside him felt drawn to it. He decided to take a leap of faith and volunteer, which not only reignited his passion but also led to a new career path that aligned with his true calling.
8. The Warning Dream:
A woman dreamt that her house had a severe plumbing issue, even though everything seemed fine. She couldn’t shake off the dream, so she called a plumber to inspect. It turned out there was a hidden leak that could have caused massive damage if not caught early. This dream was her intuition’s way of alerting her to a real problem, even before any signs were visible.
Reflection Questions:

- What small, quiet nudges have you experienced recently? How did you respond?
- Are there areas in your life where you feel disconnected or unsure? How might your intuition be trying to guide you?
