Scripture: John 4

In John 4, we witness a profound revelation of Jesus’ power and compassion. This chapter not only highlights His miraculous deeds but also emphasizes His deep concern for individuals, regardless of their background or status. As we delve into this passage, let us open our hearts to recognize that the same Jesus who performed miracles then is still at work in our lives today.

1. The Healing of the Official’s Son (John 4:46–54):

In Cana of Galilee, Jesus encounters a royal official whose son is gravely ill in Capernaum. The official pleads with Jesus to heal his son. Jesus responds, “Go, your son will live.” Upon returning home, the official learns that his son recovered at the exact time Jesus spoke these words. This miracle not only restored health but also led the official and his entire household to believe in Jesus. 

Reflection: How often do we seek Jesus in times of crisis? Do we trust in His word and timing, even when circumstances seem dire?

2. The Samaritan Woman at the Well (John 4:5–26):

Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well is a testament to His willingness to break societal norms. Despite cultural taboos, He engages her in a deep conversation about living water and true worship. Through this dialogue, the woman recognizes Jesus as the Messiah, leading her to share her testimony with her community, resulting in many Samaritans believing in Him.  

Reflection: Jesus sees beyond our past and societal labels. How can we, like the Samaritan woman, share our encounters with Jesus to bring others to faith?

3. The Healing of the Royal Official’s Son (John 4:43–54):

Upon returning to Galilee, Jesus is approached by a royal official whose son is near death. The official implores Jesus to come and heal his son. Jesus tells him, “Go, your son will live.” The official believes Jesus’ words and departs. On his way home, he learns that his son recovered at the exact time Jesus spoke. This miracle not only healed the boy but also led the official and his entire household to believe in Jesus.  

Reflection: Do we have the faith to believe in Jesus’ words, even when we cannot see immediate results?

4. The Healing of the Woman with the Issue of Blood (Mark 5:25–34):

While not in John 4, this account complements our understanding of Jesus’ healing power. A woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years touches Jesus’ garment, believing she will be healed. Jesus, recognizing the power that had gone out from Him, turns and tells her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.” This story illustrates that faith, even a small act like touching His garment, can lead to miraculous healing.

Reflection: Are we willing to reach out to Jesus in faith, believing that He can heal and restore us?

5. Testimony of Healing:

A woman shared her testimony of healing from severe PTSD and physical pain. After years of trauma and medical treatments, she experienced a profound encounter with Jesus, leading to complete healing. She now lives free from pain and medication, attributing her restoration to the mercy and power of Jesus. 

Reflection: Have we experienced healing in our lives? How can we share our stories to encourage others?

Conclusion:

The miracles in John 4 and the testimonies we hear today affirm that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. His power to heal, restore, and transform lives is still at work. Let us approach Him with faith, believing that He can perform miracles in our lives as well.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the miracles You performed in the past and continue to perform today. We ask for Your healing touch in our lives and the faith to believe in Your power. Help us to share our testimonies and bring others to know You as the Savior of the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Heavenly Father,
