Real Love Waits

A Blog on Authenticity, Isaiah 64:4, and the Only Love That Has Never Once Let You Down

The Question We Are All Really Asking

Authenticity matters. Doesn’t it?

We feel it in our bones, even when we cannot find the words for it. There is that quiet, persistent hunger for something real. The world is skilled at producing things that look real but aren’t. We scroll through the highlight reels of other people’s lives, and something in us whispers, but is that true?

We watch the grand gestures, the beautiful words, and the carefully curated moments. And we think, but will it last? We have been given gifts that turned into obligations. We have been loved in ways that came with conditions. We have been promised things that evaporated the moment the promise became inconvenient.

And so we scrutinize. We hold things up to the light, looking for the flaw. We wait for the other shoe to drop. In our experience, it eventually drops. We tell ourselves, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. We move through our lives with a low-level wariness, earned by every disappointment we have ever survived.

We are a generation of people who are desperately hungry for something authentic and simultaneously convinced that authentic is not something we are allowed to have.

In the middle of all that hunger, all that wariness, and all that deep longing for something real, there is something more. This is where a new voice comes in.

God speaks.

Isaiah 64:4 — The Verse That Changes Everything

“Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.”

Read that again. Slowly. Let every word find its place.
No one has heard. No ear has perceived. No eye has seen.
In other words, what God offers is beyond the category of anything you have ever encountered before.

You cannot compare it to anything the world has given you. It cannot be measured against any human love you have known. It does not belong in the same conversation as broken promises or love that was only temporary or conditional.
It is true.

It is simply true.

All His promises are true. Not just some of them, or only the ones that are easy to keep. Every single one. Since ancient times, before the world learned to fake love or perform authenticity for others, and before we learned to keep our distance because getting close had hurt us.

God has been exactly who He says He is.
And He always will be.

What True Love Actually Looks Like

There is a phrase that was made popular in Christian culture some years ago. True love waits. It was used primarily in the context of purity, the idea that real love is patient enough to honor what is sacred rather than rushing toward what is convenient.

But today, I want to look at that phrase more deeply. If we apply it not just to our relationships with others but also to our relationship with God, it can change how we live.

True love waits.

What does that mean when we are talking about God?

It means He waited. Before you ever knew Him, He was waiting for you. Before you searched for Him, He was already watching over you. Before you were ready to accept what He had for you, He was holding it for you, patiently and faithfully. He never got frustrated or gave it to someone else because you took too long. He simply waited for the moment you would be ready.

That is not the love of the world. The world’s love has a timer on it. A threshold of patience after which it moves on. A point at which the waiting becomes too much and the love finds somewhere less complicated to land.

God’s love does not have a timer. It has no threshold. It does not move on. It does not give up. It does not check on how you are doing from a distance while quietly making other arrangements.
It waits.
It has always.
And it is waiting right now.

The World We Live In

Can I be honest about something for a moment?
We live in a world saturated with imitations of love. Everywhere we turn, something presents itself as real that is actually curated. Something presenting itself as authentic that is actually performing. Something presenting itself as lasting, with an expiration date nobody is advertising.

Social media shows us the highlight reel and asks us to believe it is the whole story. Relationships promise forever, then renegotiate the terms when forever gets complicated. People tell us we are irreplaceable, then replace us. Companies sell the idea of belonging, then remind us that it requires a subscription. Even among our own families and friends, we feel the subtle shift toward conditional love. It is present when we perform well, and it cools when we disappoint.

And in the middle of all of this noise, in the middle of all of this beautiful, sophisticated imitation, our souls are trying to find something that is actually what it says it is.

We search for something that was the same yesterday as it is today. Something that does not perform differently for others. Something that does not love us more when we are at our best or less when we are at our worst. Something that knew exactly what it was getting when it chose us, and chose us anyway.
Something real.

And here is what I know, with everything in me, after everything I have lived through and everything I have walked through with the women I serve.

The only love that has ever been fully, completely, and without exception what it said it was is His.

Every gift He gives is good. Not some of them. Not the gifts that arrived in the form we expected. Not just the gifts that felt like gifts when they arrived.

All of them. Even the ones disguised as difficulties. Even the ones that came in seasons we would not have chosen. Even the gifts that came through losses, making room for things He knew we needed.

All of His gifts are good. All of His promises are true. All of His love is authentic.
And it is ours.

Not earned. Not conditional. Not waiting for us to become worthy of receiving it.

Waiting For God Is Not What You Think It Is

Now I want to talk about the waiting. Because Isaiah 64:4 tells us that God acts on behalf of those who wait for Him. And I think we have misunderstood what waiting means.

We think waiting means being passive. Sitting still. Doing nothing. Holding our breath until God moves.
But waiting on God is not passive. It is actually one of the most active and brave things we can do. It asks us to resist the habits the world has taught us, like trying to control or force things to happen our way. We often fill the silence with noise because quiet can feel like emptiness.

Waiting on God means trusting that He is working, even when you cannot see it. It means believing His timing is perfect, not late. It means calming the restlessness that comes when things aren’t happening as quickly as you’d like. Sometimes, you have to choose, maybe even with effort, to stay in a place of trust instead of rushing ahead.

We become restless. We become distracted. The world offers us a thousand substitutes for the quiet, and we take them because the quiet can feel uncomfortable when what we are waiting for has not yet arrived.
But it begins by calming that heart of yours.

That anxious, hungry, beautiful, battle-worn heart that has been looking for something real for so long that it has almost forgotten what real feels like.

Put your hand on your chest right now. Feel your own heartbeat. And say this out loud wherever you are reading this.

True love waits.

Not as a reminder to yourself to be patient. As a declaration about who God is. As an affirmation of what you already have access to, even if you have not yet learned how to fully receive it.
It waits. For you. On you. With you. In you.
It has never stopped waiting.

The Voice In The Quiet

I want to ask you something personal.
When was the last time you sat in real quiet and listened? Not for an answer to a specific prayer. Not for direction about a decision. Just listened. To the sound of a God who has spoken into your life since before you were born. He has things to say to you right now. Your noise, speed, and restlessness have made it hard to hear Him.

We live in a world that is afraid of quiet. We fill every silence with music, podcasts, or scrolling, anything to avoid complete quiet. Sometimes, we do this to protect ourselves. In the quiet, real things come up: the grief we have avoided, the longing we have not faced, and the questions we fear because we are not sure we are ready for the answers.

But God is present in the quiet. He is everywhere, but the quiet is where His voice is easiest to hear. It is where He can speak past all the other noise. It is where the still, small voice that Elijah heard in the cave, after the fire, the earthquake, and the wind, finally had space to be heard.

Let yourself stay in the quiet. Let your heart listen to what it needs most. God’s voice never stops speaking love, even when everything else is silent. In that silence, remember: Real love has waited for you and will keep waiting. Step into the quiet, receive what is already yours, and move forward knowing you are held by the only love that has never let you down and never will.

That is authenticity. That is the real thing. That is the love that does not perform differently when nobody is watching because it is always fully itself. Always fully present. Always fully for you.
And it is there waiting every single time you are willing to get quiet enough to receive it.

What Scrutiny Cannot Find in Him?

We scrutinize everything we love because we have been burned by things that seemed real but turned out not to be. That scrutiny is not cynicism. It is self-protection. It is the reasonable response of a heart that has learned to check the fine print before it commits.

So let me invite you to scrutinize Him.

Look for the inconsistency. Look for the moment, He loved you conditionally. Look for the promise He did not keep. Look for the gift that was not actually good. Look for the evidence that He is performing something He does not actually feel. Look for the morning. He was not there. The prayer He turned away from. The need He decided was too much. The season He abandoned you in because the waiting had become too costly.

Look.
I will wait while you look.

Because I already know what you will find.
Nothing. Not one thing. Not one moment across the entire history of your life when He was not exactly who He said He is. Not one promise broken. Not one gift was ultimately good. Not one moment of genuine reaching toward Him that was met with absence.

He is the only love that passes the scrutiny test. Every single time. In every season. For every person who has ever brought their hunger for something real to the only Source that has never once run dry.
He is authentic. Completely. Permanently. Without exception.
And He is yours.

A Love Letter From The One Who Knew You First

I want to close the teaching part of this blog with something I feel in my spirit as I write. I want to write to you as though God Himself is reaching through these words, not because I am His voice, but because I believe He uses whatever is available to say what needs to be said to the hearts that need to hear it.

So receive this as you are able. With whatever openness the journey has left in you.

I knew you before you knew yourself.

I knew the specific shape of your hunger before you had words for what you craved. I knew the particular way your heart breaks, the particular way it heals, and the particular things that make you come alive in a way that nothing else does. I knew all of that before your first breath, and I have been holding all of it faithfully ever since.

I am not the love that disappointed you. I am not the promise that turned out to have conditions. I am not the gift that looked good on the outside and cost you something on the inside. I am not the one who changed when things got hard. I am not the presence that became absence when you needed it most.

I am the love that was before everything. That will be after everything. That is completely itself in every moment between.

I am not performing for you. I am not curating a version of Myself that is easier for you to receive. I am not showing you the highlight reel while keeping the rest hidden. What you see is what it is. What I say is what is true. What I promise is what will happen.

You can examine me closely. I welcome it. Not because I need to prove myself, but because I know what you will find when you look deeply. You will find the same love at the bottom as you did at the top. Consistent. Faithful. Complete. For you.
True love waits.
I have been waiting for you to get quiet enough to hear me say that.
I am still waiting.
Come sit with me.

COME AS YOU ARE

A Personal Invitation From Nancy

If something in this blog found you today, if these words landed somewhere tender and familiar inside you, I want you to know that it was not an accident.

You were meant to read this. And I believe you are meant to take the next step.
I want to personally invite you to join Bible Chicks.

Not a polished Bible study where everyone has it all together. It is not a performance of faith or a highlight reel of spiritual perfection. Bible Chicks is just what the name suggests: real women, honest conversations, and authentic faith. It is a place where you can bring your true self—the one still figuring things out, the one with questions, the one hungry for something real in a world full of imitations—and find a group of women who feel the same way.

The honest questions. We cry when things need to be cried about and laugh when laughter is the most faithful response. We hold each other in the gardens and the pressing seasons and the middle of the night moments when the quiet gets too loud.
And we do it together.

Every Saturday morning at 8:00am EST, we gather on Zoom from all over the country. Women from every background, every season of life, and every stage of faith join together; some are new to God, and some have walked with Him for years. We all choose to be real with each other and with the One who made us.

It is raw. It is authentic. It is real.
And there is a seat in that room with your name on it.
Come exactly as you are. Bring your questions. Bring your doubts. Bring your hunger for something that is actually what it says it is. Bring the version of yourself that you have been keeping hidden because you were not sure it was welcome anywhere.
It is welcome here.

Join us at http://www.duarte.coach/bc
We meet every Saturday morning at 8:00am EST.
Nationwide on Zoom.

CLOSING PRAYER

Father, we end right here. In this moment. With every woman who just read these words and felt something stir inside her that she has not felt in a long time or has never felt before.
You know who she is. You know where she is sitting right now. You know what she came looking for when she found this page, and you know what she found instead, or rather, who she found. And you are not surprised because you arranged this moment long before she arrived.

Meet her here, Lord. Right now. In whatever she is feeling in this moment. In the hunger. In the wariness. In the beautiful, exhausted longing for something real that has been with her longer than she can remember.

Remind her that you are not too good to be true. That you are simply true. That every promise You have made is one You have kept and will keep. That every gift you give is good, even the ones that did not look like gifts when they arrived. That your love is not a highlight reel, a performance, or something that changes when the audience changes. It is constant, complete, and entirely for her.

And Lord, for the woman who feels like she has been waiting too long. Who has been in a season that has stretched beyond what she thought she could bear. Who has been holding on to faith with tired hands and a heart that is running low on certainty. Meet her specifically. In the specific details of her waiting. Let her feel tonight that You see her there. That you have not forgotten. That your timing is not abandonment but precision. That’s what you are building in the waiting is something she could not have received any other way.

And Lord, for the woman who is on the edge of something. Who read these words and felt a door open somewhere inside her that had been closed for a very long time. Who is considering taking the next step but is not sure she is ready, or worthy, or far enough along in her faith to belong somewhere like Bible Chicks.

Tell her what you always tell the ones who are not sure they belong.
Tell her she is exactly who this was built for.
Tell her that raw, authentic, and real means that exactly as she is right now, she is not just welcome but needed. That the women in that room on Saturday morning are not waiting for a polished version of her. They are waiting for the real one.
And tell her what you have always told the hearts that are hungry for something genuine in a world full of imitations.
True love waits.
It has always been waiting.
It is waiting right now.
Come find it.
In Jesus’ name, the same yesterday, today, and forever, the only love that has never once failed the scrutiny test.
Amen.

We will see you Saturday morning, Bible Chicks.
8:00am EST. Nationwide on Zoom.
Raw. Authentic. Real.
Just like the God we gather for.
